Project Description:

Learning from the experiences of the past and folk cultural traditions, we move towards a sustainable future, not only for the benefit of local communities but with the involvement of the wider public on both sides of the border.
During the project lifecycle, We will explore and share knowledge that contributes to sustainability, gives knowledge to future generations that is thought to be forgotten, while at the same time we think of it as an entertaining cultural value. Our aim is to enrich the tourism offer of the Hungary - Serbia cross-border region through folk life and cultural traditions and sustainability-oriented initiatives, programmes, events and activities mainly in Subotica and Deszk:

  •  small group activities and workshops for children and adults,
  • large-scale camps and cultural festivals,
  • sustainability, knowledge transfers and folk culture programmes in the future Serbian Country House and Garden,
  • folk art drama theatre and performances,
  • creation of community spaces in Subotica and Desk.

(Expected) Results:

Group activities related to folk life / traditions presented in a living environment

  • 12 events in Deszk (Easter in folk tradition; Pentecost in folk tradition; Summer solstice celebrations; Feast of bread - from harvest to baking; Autumn celebrations/Martins Day customs; All Saints' Day; Advent, Christmas and New Year; Stars Above Us- Stargazing Constellations - a celebration of winter; Carnival trick-or-treating; Waiting for springtime (Sándor, József, Benedek); Feast of the Assumption of Mary - harvest in folk tradition; Michaelmas fairs, collection)

Major events focusing on folk life and traditions in Deszk

  • 7 events (2 summer handcraft camps and 1 music and dance camp, Ajvar Festival tow times in 2024 and 2025, Easter and Egg Bumping Championship,  Đurđevdan celebration)

Houses of Arts programs

  • 4 events (Houses of Arts programs, creating/show theatrical performance)

Public events of folk culture and traditions in Subotica/Palić

  • 6 events (Palicsi Magyar Sokadalom Festival twice in 2024 and 2025; Talentum Camps twice in 2024 and 2025; Children's Solo Dance Competition once in 2024 and Christmas Performance in 2024).

  • Folk gastronomy, beliefs and customs, Self-sufficient household in peasant society 
    Storytelling, adult games with lap children, Resonant Sounds Music Worlds Meeting, Hungarian-Serbian Folk Motifs - Costumes and Dances Meeting, Drama Pedagogy Meets Folk Culture)

Renovation works

  • Construction/restoration of the Serbian Country House and Garden in Deszk, HU.
  • Construction of new corn crib (hu. góré), grain shed (hu. hambár) and two cart sheds/carriage houses (hu. Kocsiszín) in Deszk, HU.
  • Renovation and creation of the Talentum House in Subotica, RS.
